6 Tips on How to Save Money on Crafting Supplies

I have been crafting since I was 15 years old. Over the past 30 years I have dabbled in all kinds of different crafts. I love to do scrapbooking, cardmaking, beading, weaving, plastic canvas, crochet, cross stitching and of course...quilting.

One thing I can personally tell you is that crafting can get really expensive. However, there are ways you can cut down those expenses and today, I am going to tell you how you can save money on all of your crafting supplies.

1. Every Sunday pick up the newspaper and go through all of the store's circular ads. You will often find great deals like 10 for $10.00 deals, 2 for $5.00 deals and so forth. These deals are for a limited time only.

2. Look for online coupons that you can use. A lot of these coupons will get you free shipping, a certain percentage off, buy 1 get 1 free deals, etc. You can find great coupons for Hancock Fabrics, A.C. Moore, Joann, Michael's, Hobby Lobby and more!

3. If you are shopping in a physical retail craft store look in the back of the store for a clearance section. You will often find clearance deals for up to 80% off regular price!

4. When shopping in the store look at the end of the aisles for clearance deals and sales specials. These are often at the end of the aisle and can really save you some money.

5. Buy in bulk whenever you can! If you are a paper crafter, buy your paper in large bundles. If you go through a lot of glue...purchase a multiple pack. Often times the larger the pack, the more money you will save.

6. Box up and bag up your leftover craft supplies that you no longer need and trade them with another person who crafts. These days you can find all kinds of people online who would be willing to trade supplies with you.

Sitting down and creating some with your own hands is a lot of fun. Plus, you get a lot of satisfaction in making that item yourself. With that said, you can save a lot of money on your crafting supplies by following the 6 tips listed above.

Remodeling My Craft and Sewing Rooms

We have now lived in our new home for about 11 months. We have gotten most of the rooms remodeled and decorated the way that we would like. With that said, we are now being a three room remodeling project on our family room, my craft & sewing room and our one smaller guest bedroom.

For the family room and the small guest bedroom we are going to go with wall to wall carpeting in both of those rooms. Hubby gutted the old stucco walls last weekend and hung up all brand new drywall in both of the rooms. Next up...replacing the lighting fixtures and then the decorating will be begin.

Now for my craft and sewing room I am thinking about going with hardwood flooring and really like the BuildDirect on Amazon products. They have some beautiful choices and I really like the Bamboo Flooring Strand Woven in the Natural color and I like the Prefinished Canadian Hard Maple Flooring in Natural.

I think putting in hardwood flooring will be the way to go in that room because my orthopedic chair is on wheels. Plus, I use two large tables as my work surfaces and they are both on wheels too. We all know that craft & sewing room furniture that is on wheels don't work well on carpeting. I don't want ceramic tile as that is cold on the feet.

The lighter colors in hardwood flooring really appeal to me and my decorating taste. My craft room is about the size of our family room and I can't wait to get it done! After the flooring goes in I want hubby to run wall to wall shelving 3-layers deep across one of the walls so I can use them for storage space. My scrapbooking supplies will take up at least 1/2 of the room for sure!

Listening to Music While I Craft

I love to sit in my craft and sewing room and whip up creative delights for my family to enjoy. Just yesterday I sat in there doing some scrapbooking and then I started a new project with painting an outdoor ceramic lighthouse to sit in my flower garden.

While I spent 5 hours in my craft room I realized that my best creative work comes when I listen to music, so I turned on my laptop computer and found a site that offers online classic rock music. I love listening to the classic rock as the new-age rock really isn't my cup of tea.

Some of my favorite rock groups to listen to while I craft, sew or scrapbook are: Led Zepplin, Def Leopard, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Poison, Twisted Sister, Billy Idol, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and several others.

Celebrate Your Good Life Moments - Inspired by Allstate

Just this past weekend I had another Good Life moment when that same grandchild (now 4 years old) was over visiting me and went out into our backyard to pick me some flowers (all dandelions & weeds of course) and when she brought them into me, I was grinning from ear to ear with joy!

It's these little precious moments with my grand daughter that make me happy and help to pull me through the sad times that we all seem to experience in our lives at one time or another. We need to all remember those little Good Life moments when we get down in the dumps to help pull ourselves up into the sunshine again.

Gossipy Neighbors

My neighbors are the biggest gossipers. When Sherry down the street got pregnant (she’s not married) they were the first ones to tell me about it and when the principal of my son’s school got fired they knew about it before the newspapers did, somehow!

I always worry about what they’ve observed about me that they’re telling everyone else so I try to keep my nose down and not gossip about anyone else to them in case they tell them I’ve been talking about them. They sometimes have really good helpful information, though, like when they told me about the new consignment store set to come in at the mall. And they knew about ambit energy for Ben Franklin Residents before it was ever announced on the state’s utilities website and that saved my husband and I a bundle of money on our electric bill.

But at the end of the day I know I can’t trust them at all so I try not to tell them anything too personal about me so they won’t know anything that they can use against me. They’re good women at heart but they don’t work or anything so I know they’re just bored at the end of the day.

My son plays with one of their sons regularly so I’m definitely considered “part of the group” I think, but here in Texas you have to be careful about which group you’re in! My mom was one of these women when I was younger, I remember, and now that I’m older I’m striving to be a little more civilized than all that. It’s easier said than done though and it’s hard not to get swept up in all the gossip. It’s an interesting way to spend a morning but I don’t think it’s the best use of my time when I’ve got bills to pay and calendars to look at and soccer games to attend, you know what I mean!

Moms Are Loving the Mombo Nursing Pillow!

Curbside Chaos Yard Makeover + Fall Gardening and Planting

I wanted to get busy with our Fall flower bulb planting so I decided to use their Garden Guru Tools (bottom left side of the page) which is broken down by country and then your state/planting zone.

That is very cool to know since we have big areas of all three around our house!

Every spring we give potted bulbs to both of our mothers for the Easter holiday and another set for Mother's Day in May. Our moms look forward to getting their potted bulbs every year!

The Revlon Expression Experiment and My Results

Normally I don't post about cosmetics and makeup here on my blog but today, I wanted to do something a little different. As a work at home and home business owner, I often don't get all-dolled up just to work from home. I was also finding myself in a "rut" and doing the same-old look every time I put my makeup on.

I was asked to participate in the Revlon Expression Experiment and jumped at the chance! As a woman who just turned 45 years old, I needed a new look and some help accomplishing it. The great folks over at Revlon sent me their Revlon Expression Experiment Kit and inside it I received a very helpful instructional booklet with a variety of looks for to me to choose from, along with a 3-piece nail polish set, 2 lipstick, 1 lip gloss, makeup primer and 2 nice palettes of eye shadow. Wow, lots of goodies to play with!

What I really like about the products that Revlon sent to me is that the kit included almost everything I needed to change-up my look (minus mascara and eyeliner). With the summer heat we have been experiencing here on the east coast, I was rarely even wearing makeup as it felt heavy on my face or ran/melted in the heat. I was excited to try out the Revlon products as my adult daughter raves about them to me all of the time.

Revlon is a great company for empowering women because their products are high-quality, vast in the colors and variety of products and I love that they are all affordable. These days, I want product that delivery performance and I want them at a price that fits within my budget. If you are like me, Revlon is the answer!

Note: Some of the photos in this post will have a yellow tint due to the special lighting I have in my bathroom. The photo to the left shows me just with both primer's on...no other makeup. Please don't scream, I don't look good without makeup!

After my shower I decided to try out the Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer. I usually don't use a primer but after applying the Revlon one, I will now be a faithful primer user. The primer just glides across your skin and it doesn't clump up or feel heavy at all. I have dark circles under my eyes so I added the Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener underneath my eyes and onto my eye lids. I did have some problems using this product because it's in a tube that you twist to get the product to come up and into the application brush. I had to click and turn it about 20 times before it finally loaded into the application brush. Once it did, I applied it and then smoothed it underneath my eyes and on my eye lids with my fingertips. (I found that to be better than the brush). It did a wonderful job at lightening my dark circles and it made eye shadow application easier.

I then decided to use the Revlon "Inspire" Eye Shadow Compact for my eyes which includes 4 different colors of eye shadows. On the back of the compact they have a diagram where each of the 4 colors go on your eyes so I followed that and applied all 4 of them. (one is a mint green, one is a turquoise, one is an ivory and one is a dark gray). I found the eye shadows to be fabulous and very easy to apply. They didn't clump up, didn't get all over my eye lashes or smear during the application process. I admit, I normally do not wear colors like these day-to-day but I would certainly wear them to go out at night. With that said, using this compact made me feel like I needed to change up my daytime look and since I have green eyes, the green eye shadows really brought out the green in my eyes. If you have green eyes, the "Inspire" compact is a must! In addition, I applied them at 7am in the morning and they were still going strong at 7pm later that night! yeah! Eye Shadows with staying power! You gotta love that! The photo to the right is my new "Daytime Look" and I think it looks fabulous!!!!

I normally do not wear lipstick or lip gloss unless it is for a special ocassion or an evening out with hubby (aka. date night with my hubby). Usually lipsticks and lip glosses bug me as I usually need to keep reapplying them numerous times during the day. With that said, I love lip glosses that are not sticky but often times it is really hard trying to find them.

Revlon sent me a lip gloss that is in medium shade of red, with an orange under-tone to it. When I first saw it, I thought ewwww, that shade is NOT for me! However, I was willing to try a new lip gloss and in a shade I would normally stay clear of. The lip gloss has your classic foam tip applicator and is really easy to use. I put it onto my lips and only had to coat my lips once as it gives you great coverage. I didn't need to use any type of undercoat or lip liner with it. What was really nice about this lip gloss other than the coverage is that it was NOT sticky! You didn't feel like your lips were sticking together. In addition, I wouldn't normally buy this shade but now that I tried this shade of red, I think I looked pretty good in it! hahaha! I definitely need to rethink red lip gloss for the future! (side note: hubby loved the red lip gloss on me!).

The photo on the left is my new evening-time look! I used the Revlon Face Primer, Eye Primer, the Bombshell Eye Shadow Compact (medium gray, dark gray, yellow and ivory eye shadow colors) and the red lip gloss that I just told you about.

I am having a LOT of fun with my new Revlon Expressions Experiment Kit and trying out all kinds of colors and looks that I normally wouldn't of tried. I love that Revlon has something for everyone in the cosmetics lineup. You can go for the classic neutral shades, pastel shades or go for the bold and daring shades. Another great thing is that Revlon's cosmetics are ageless! My 27 year old daughter can wear them, I (at age 45) can wear them and even my 66 year old mother can wear them! yeah!!!

Revlon also sent me a 3-piece nail set including: a base coat, a pretty creamsicle orange nail polish and a clear top coat. I didn't get time to play with that just yet but I am thinking about putting it on my toes! I love fun and funky colors like that on my toes during the summer when I am wearing a lot of open-toed sandals and/or going barefoot. How about you?
