I have a friend who has decorated her home in various animal prints. Her kitchen is in a country cow print and her master bath in a giraffe print. My friend wanted to cover up the outlets in both of these rooms so we decided to make our own decorative outlet plug covers.
You could easily do leopard, giraffe, cow, zebra etc. type of animal prints.
Please Note: These outlet covers are not child proof!
Materials Needed
2 1/2" diameter unfinished wooden heart shapes
plastic outlet child safety plugs
acrylic paint (in colors necessary to make the animal print you desire)
paint brush
dish of water and paper towels
3 sheets of newspaper
All-purpose craft glue
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer
Since you will be painting, lay several sheets of newspaper down onto your work surface.
Step 1: Paint your unfinished wooden heart shapes with your desired color. In our case, we used white and light beige acrylic paint. Let dry for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 2: Using a fine tip paint brush, paint on uneven spots in your accent color. In our case, we used black and a dark mustard color. On the giraffe print one, we outlined the spots with a medium brown to add some depth.
Step 3: Once the fronts of your hearts are dry, flip them over and add a quarter sized glob of all purpose craft glue. Attach the plastic outlet plug to the back and let dry for 1 hour.
Step 4: (optional) If desired, you can spray one to two coats of acrylic sealer onto the front of your painted hearts to protect the paint finish from wear and tear. If you use the spray sealer, do it in a well ventilated area and let it dry for 1 hour.
