1st Day of School Scrapbooking Page Layout Idea

Last year my little grand daughter started Kindergarten and we were lucky enough to be able to spend the morning with her on the First Day of School. We enjoyed breakfast together and then stood at the bus stop with her until she boarded her bus.

Today...I am sharing with all of you a traditional 12 x 12 scrapbooking page layout that I did featuring her 1st day of School.

My background is a sheet of printed paper that is done in a schoolhouse theme. I used one vertical 4" by 6" photo of my grand daughter on the layout and matted that photo on dark red, yellow and green cardstock to frame it up. I left an 1/8" edge with the dark red and yellow mats and a 3/16" edge on the green one. Underneath the photo is a Brad Buddy in red that says GIGGLE.

The title of this page is 1st Day School. I used a chipboard black #1 and two sticker letters on a yellow cardstock block for the 1st and matted that on dark red and green cardstock, leaving a 1/16" edge around each mat. I used black sticker letters to spell out the word DAY and did the same matting color scheme as I just described. Both are attached to the page using adhesive foam dots and are to the left of the photograph.

To the right of the photograph I used a 3-D embellishment that I had left over from another project that says "IMAGINE", it is right above the green tag which has her name and grade handwritten on it. I accented the two flowers on that tag with adhesive white half-pearls to add interest.. Underneath the green tag is a school bus that I made using my Cricut. I cut it out using yellow and black cardstock (layered together), inked around the edges of the bus and then accented the inner bus wheels with red metal round brads.

I used my Cricut to cut out pennant flags from yellow, black and green cardstock. I used the 1 1/4" setting, the 1 1/2" setting and then the 1 3/4" setting and layered the three colors together to form one pennant per letter. I used adhesive black Alpha letters and spelled out the word SCHOOL. I used a piece of 1/8" by 11" red ribbon and strong it across the top and anchored each end with a metallic dark red heart brad. I used tiny glue dots to adhere the ribbon to the page. I then used adhesive to attach each pennant to the ribbon to form my title.

This page took me about 2 hours to make but was done on the frugal side since I used mostly paper that I pieced together for most of my embellishments. The rest was left-overs that I had from other projects so its a nice FRUGAL page and great for using up things from your scrap box. Overall, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. There are 2 coordinating pages to go along with this one and you can find them on my blog in the scrapbooking section.

You always do such a beautiful job with your scrapbooks. This layout is creative and makes me think I can feel your granddaughter's reactions to her school.
