Crochet Project - Chocolate Sandwich Cookies Faux Food

Every little girl loves having their own 'play' kitchen along with various types of faux food to use in their kitchens. As a new grandmother, I am on a mission to make numerous faux foods for my grand daughter and I will give them to her on her third birthday along with a new kitchen play set.

Right now I have about 25 different completed items...made from fabric, felt or crochet and will be posting numerous instructions and patterns for them on my blog over the next few months, so keep checking back :)

Last weekend, I decided to design my own pattern for faux chocolate sandwich cookies. If you use a bigger crochet hook than suggested, you can make them into chocolate whoopie pies!

Crochet Chocolate Sandwich Cookies Faux Food Pattern

Supplies Needed:

Size D or E Crochet Hook
Dark Brown Acrylic Yarn
White Acrylic Yarn
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Poly Fiber Fill Stuffing (just a small amount)

Using dark brown yarn, chain 5, join with a sl st to the first chain.

Rnd 1: Chain 3 to count as the first dc, work 14 more dc in the ring, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning chain 3. (15 dc)

Rnd 2: Chain 3 to count as the first dc, dc in the same st as joining, work 2 dc in each remaining dc around, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning chain 3. (30 dc) Fasten off.

Using white yarn, attach yarn using a sl st in the last stitch that you made with brown yarn. Single crochet in each stitch around (30 sc), fasten off.

Using dark brown yarn, chain 5, join with a sl st to the first chain. Repeat the rounds numbered 1 and 2 again. Fasten off but allow an 18" long piece of yarn tail.

Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tail, whip stitch this piece to the white (filling piece) by lining up the stitches. Once you are almost completely around, lightly stuff with some poly-fiber fill so that your cookie will hold its shape. Finish whip stitching until your cookie is closed up. Hide the yarn tail by threading it under a few stitches.
