Felt Food - Cucumber and Pickle Slices - Play Food Patterns
I enjoyed making these Cucumber (or Zucchini Slices) and Pickle slices out of felt for my grand daughters felt food play set that I have been making because they are really easy and you only need a small amount of felt to make them. I chose to use some Eco Felt that I had left over from another project.
Felt Cucumber Slices
Dark Green, Olive Green and Vanilla colored felt
Matching embroidery floss (to match felt colors)
Embroidery Needle and Scissors
Pattern: You will need 3 circles cut from paper with one measuring 2 1/4" in diameter, one 2" in diameter and one 1 3/4" in diameter.
Using your paper pattern for the 2 1/4" circle, cut two circles from dark green felt. Use your 2" diameter paper pattern to cut one circle from olive green felt and use your 1 3/4" paper pattern to cut one circle from vanilla colored felt.
From scrap olive green felt, cut out four tear drop shapes that are about 1/4" in length to represent seeds.
Using 2 strands of olive green floss, hand stitch the seeds onto the vanilla felt circle as shown in the photo. Using 2 strands of vanilla colored floss, use small hand stitches and stitch the vanilla felt circle to the olive green circle. Using 2 strands of olive green floss and hand stitch your felt circles to the dark green circle. Using 2 strands of dark green floss, place the two dark green circles wrong-sides together and blanket stitch or whip stitch the circles together (around the edges) and fasten off. You have now made a cucumber or zucchini slice.
Felt Sliced Pickles:
Olive green and Vanilla colored Felt
Matching Embroidery Floss and Needle
Scissors
Pattern: You will need one circle that measures 2" in diameter and one that measures 1 3/4" in diameter cut from paper. Use these as your pattern.
From scrap felt, cut 4 tear drops from olive green felt that each measure approx. 1/4" in length. Using 2 strands of olive green embroidery floss, hand stitch them to your vanilla colored 1 3/4" diameter circle using tiny hand stitches, fasten off. Use 2 strands of vanilla colored floss and hand stitch it to the center of your 2" diameter olive green circle. (around the edges). Using a second (unsewn) olive green circle, place it wrong sides together with your completed circle and use 2 strands of olive green embroidery floss and blanket stitch around the edges to attach them. You have now made a sliced pickle!
Please use the photo for reference as looking at the photo is probably easier than reading my instructions LOL.
